Monthly, March or April
4:00 PM | Grades 6 - 12 | In-person
Help your peers choose their next book by creating a display! Sign up to design a display for the month – you decide the theme, meet with our YA staff to create signs and choose the books or other items for display, and then set it up. Your display will be on two shelves for the calendar month and will earn you 4 hours of community service. Please sign up by calling 516.931.3907 and speaking with a YA Librarian.
Bethpage Library Adopt a Display Rules
¨ Adopt-a-Display is a community service effort by the Bethpage Public Library to allow patrons grades 6-12 to cultivate their very own, 2-shelf display in the YA Room of Bethpage-Library-owned materials for one calendar month. Materials with an M or a J sticker, or from the Children’s Room, are not eligible for display. Movies and Games should be rated no higher than PG-13, and any materials selected from the Adult Collection must be approved by a YA Librarian.
¨ Registration must be done with a YA Librarian, in person or over the phone, beginning at 9:00am on the registration date indicated by the most recent library newsletter. If all shelves have been adopted for the calendar month you request, you will be added to the waitlist and contacted in the event of cancellation.
¨ Teens are required to select a date and time within Library hours to meet with a YA librarian to choose materials for their display and design signage/visuals.
¨ If you do not select a meeting date at the time of registration, you will be contacted before your display period to arrange a date to meet with a librarian. Upon this point of contact, you will have one week to arrange a meeting.
¨ If you do not arrange a meeting with a YA Librarian about your display within one week of contact, fail to attend your meeting with the YA librarian, or are not able to meet with a librarian prior to the first week of your display month, you forfeit your registration + community service hours, and someone from the waitlist will be selected.
¨ Teens should plan on having at least 10 books, movies, and/or games selected for the display. Teens should have additional “back-up materials” chosen, which Library staff will use to fill in the display when items are checked out.
¨ Teens can come in any time during the first week of their assigned calendar month to put up their display. At the end of the month, Library staff will take down their display.
¨ Bethpage Public Library is not responsible for any approved personal items used in a display.
¨ By registering for the program, the shelf adopter acknowledges they will abide by the rules.
